Flocking With Our Fellow Christians

Flocking.

It’s what birds do. They parallel each other in flight, much like the shoaling behavior of fish in water. Insects do something similar, swarming. Land animals herd.

Why? Finding needed nourishment in time of hunger. Foraging. Survival.

Why, then, do Christians feel such a need to exhibit strength in time of adversity? We must stand alone, show our friends we can do it. We can endure the wiles of the devil with no adverse effects. Our children will be exemplary, our marriage an ideal example, and our finances in perfect order. We’re Super Christians, ready to battle the atrocities life can bring against us.

Acts 2:1 says differently:

“When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.”

They gathered together. All. In one place. Not in their homes, not at their favorite breakfast eateries. No, in one place and together.

Aw, we opine, that was then. This is now. Let’s look at our Biblical example, however. Acts 2:4 tells us:

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Bam! Devil going down! Because the early believers gathered together, and all in one place, the power of Christ and the Holy Spirit fell on them, and the power of the Church began to flow unto the ends of the earth.

Pow, pow! God in action. The birds had gathered, flocking to find substance in the presence of God, and now they were fed. Filled up with the Spirit. Socked full, spilling out, and overflowing to others.

The believers had so much of God flowing from them that Acts 2:7 says that passers-by “were amazed and astonished.”

Our strength in God is released to bless others when our faith is empowered by friendships that are bonded in the Spirit.

Excerpt of the Day

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
