In God’s Head

―  Also find us at www.MyChurchNotes.com  ―

Play a catchy tune, and we’ll find we’re singing it all day long. It gets in our head, and we can’t seem to think three thoughts without it popping up again.

That can be amusing or irritating, depending on the tune, but it can happen with nightmares, too. That bad dream haunts our day. Just when we think it’s gone, we find the darkness coming back once more.

We want the good thoughts found in a pleasant song to crop up all day long. We want to look forward to the memories they bring, for them to give us joy and make our day better.

What song pops up in God’s head when he thinks of us? What thoughts of us can he not get rid of?

Psalm 40:17 give us the desperate cry of David’s heart:

“But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks upon me: You are my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.”

Each part of this verse tells us something different about how God sees David’s cry:

“But I am poor and needy...”

God’s heart is drawn to those who need his help. His love flows from him when we need him most.

“Yet the Lord thinks upon me...”

We don’t have to be a successful mega-pastor to incite God’s attention. Need doesn’t deter God. He keeps us in his thoughts because he treasures each of us.

“You are my help and my deliverer...”

God has been where we are. Jesus, the Son, was us in the fullest sense, poor and needy at the same time, yet still loved by his Father. Our Lord reaches out to us in every situation.

“Make no tarrying, O my God.”

God enjoys our repeated reminders that we desire his help. His thoughts dwell on us when we turn our pain over to him.

We want God to sing our tune all day long, to hum it when he’s creating new worlds, for it to be stuck in his head when he consoles the bereaved, and for him to sing it aloud when he showers the world with rain.

When we come before God repeatedly in prayer, he is reminded of our love for him.

Excerpt of the Day

A promise to the devil can be laughed off when we have Jesus standing at our side. A promise from the devil is worthless, and should be laughed off even faster.
