A chipmunk is a rodent that gathers seeds, nuts, and small fruits. Each autumn, it begins to stockpile foods for winter.
We might see the chipmunk with its cheeks bulging with grain or other nonperishables as it scampers along. We see it as storing up food to fill its belly. However, one of the most important aspects of the chipmunk’s behavior is spreading its seeds around.
God wants us to have resources so great that we can be generous with them. He wants to give us more than we need, so that we don’t have to consume it all. He wants us to have excess to share.
He wants us to have chipmunk cheeks filled to the bursting point with his blessings.
Deuteronomy 28:1 tells us to hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD our God, to observe all his commandments, and he will set us on high above all nations of the earth.
Ephesians 3:20 is our assurance that he is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
Psalms 65:11 promises he will crown the year with his goodness; and our paths will drop fatness.
John 10:10 encourages us that although the thief will try to steal, and to kill, and to destroy, Jesus has come that we might have life, and that we might have it more abundantly.
Romans 15:13 offers us the hope that God will fill us with all joy and peace, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
James 1:17 inspires us that every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
When God chooses to bless his children, there is no good thing that he withholds. We will be able to fill our cheeks to the bursting point, and we will have excess that we can offer to others.
When God gives us a blessing, let’s spread it around.
