Our Charge Account

Easy credit helps the American economy go round. It helps us ease the tight months and have things when we need them, not when there’s lots of extra money in the bank.

Yet, to make this work, we have to pay attention our charge accounts. If we fail to make the payments, then they will be taken away from us, and our lives will be worse than before.

God also gives us a charge account. Its not for buying diamond rings or fancy new sofas. God’s charge account is for worship unto him.

Nehemiah 10:33 tells us seven things we are to charge against our account for the Lord:

Service Fee: We must participate in the upkeep of the church (the showbread).

Thanks Offering: We should regularly show our appreciation for our church leaders (the grain offering).

Continual Donation: Ongoing expenses are covered by our ongoing contributions (the burnt offering).

Special Holidays: We are to fund times of celebration within the body (the Sabbaths).

Holy Things: Special ministry opportunities need our financial support (the new moons).

Advertising: We must proclaim the name of the Lord outside of our church walls, and it takes funds to do so (the appointed feasts).

Contingency Fund: Extra money must be put aside for emergencies (for holy things and sin offerings).

We must see these things as part of our regular, monthly payment plan to God. When we keep our charge account payments up, he will raise our credit limit, and we will have more than ever before.

Giving unto God is good for everyone.
