How low has life taken you?
It’s like, dig a ditch, throw me in, and cover me up.
The house is in foreclosure, creditors are on the loose, and it’s Christmas. How will we ever afford gifts this year?
You may be starting at the bottom, but God wants to lift you up.
Our best example of that from the Bible centers on the birth of Our Lord.
Luke 2:7 paints the scene:
“And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”
Mary was so deep in the ditch that she didn’t even have the smallest room in the motel.
She was in the BARN.
The feeding trough for the animals was the only bed she had for her newborn son.
Did a ditch, throw her in, and cover her up. That’s likely how Mary felt.
I know, I know. We see the manger scenes with Mary lovingly attending to Jesus and angels watching overhead. And lest we forget this is the Son of God, a bright light shines from above to showcase the infant’s divinity.
Scratch … Mary had been traveling all day ON A DONKEY. She was in labor, tired, and likely hungry.
Dig a ditch …
Yet, here’s the thing: Jesus started there, but he DIDN’T END THERE.
Wherever you are today, that’s not your ending. God has a plan for you that is greater than where you are now. Step out in him and move forward into the greater things he has planned for YOU.
