We love the anticipation of a wrapped present.
What could be inside? If someone took the time to box it up, decorate it with patterned paper, and tie it up with ribbon, it must be really good.
Our heart races with our imagination, and as we pull the ribbon to untie the bow, our skin flushes, and our hand trembles with the possibilities.
God’s present to us came two millennia ago. It remained a mystery throughout the life of Jesus. Our Lord revealed the love of God to all men and brought salvation through his sacrifice on the cross, but God’s present to his children was yet to be unwrapped.
The ribbon was pulled in the Upper Room with the infilling of the Holy Spirit as evidenced by tongues and fire. In that seminal event, the Holy Spirit was gifted to mankind.
Here are 2 Mysteries Revealed about our Helper from God.
1 John 2:27 reveals that the Spirit teaches us about the nature of the Father and leads us along paths of spiritual understanding.
“But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.”
Romans 8:26-27 says the Spirit steps in when we need a connection with the Father, one we cannot pinpoint or define, and through the Spirit, we receive intercession with God.
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
The Spirit is many things to the Christian. Foremost, we receive understanding and a divine link to God’s grace when we let the Spirit work in our lives. We are empowered in knowledge, make better choices in our spiritual walk, and maintain our focus on God’s plan for our lives.
Being human will steer us off course. The Holy Spirit will act as an override, able to bump steer us back onto course to our destiny with our Savior.
Our focus is on Christ, and the Spirit is the gift that keeps our connection secure.
