In the mid-90s, Chevrolet had a successful ad for its line of trucks.
“Like a Rock.”
Their trucks tackled crazy roads, had boulders dropped in the beds by cranes, and towed massive loads up impossible inclines.
30 seconds of advertising washed us with emotion, brought tears to our eyes, and made us want to drive a Chevy.
The trucks were senselessly abused during the commercials, but that didn’t break the appeal they carried for the American public.
That’s what we need to portray as Christians, an appeal that will supersede the abuse that happens in everyone’s life.
Matthew 7:24-25 gives us Jesus’ words:
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”
Three truths are in this passage:
1. When we follow Jesus’ teachings, we reveal the wisdom of good living in everything we do.
2. Trouble might batter us, but God is our security. He is our light in the darkness.
3. Our foundation in Jesus will never shift. We rest in him, and he wraps us in his love.
Let’s be a Chevrolet. Like a Rock. Secure in Jesus. Standing on the cornerstone, bound up in his love, and forever trusting in him.
The world needs something they can trust. They need us to reveal the nature of God to them through how we live in Christ.
Jesus is our place of safety, for he is the Rock on which we stand.
