We all know that God is unchangeable.
Right?
The moods God expressed in the Bible, the righteous anger, the second chances, the lovingkindness . . . they are who he is.
God doesn’t change just because the sun sets today and rises tomorrow.
The spinning of the Universe on its axis doesn’t reimagine God even after a million years.
Yet we read that God has three sides . . . three “whens” if you like . . . that reveal three different aspects of our heavenly Father.
Search out Revelation 4:8, where it says:
“And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, ‘Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!’ ”
Four creatures . . . six wings . . . full of eyes . . . day and night . . . repeating three words: Holy. Holy. Holy. Then they get to the good part.
The First Side of God:
He was.
God holds the past in his hands. He was there when the world was formed, he stood beside us when we made our mistakes, and he understands every reason we did what we did.
The Second Side of God:
He is.
God stands at our side today. Every problem we face, he’s with us. We never know a moment when he’s not with us whispering, “You can do this. My strength is yours.”
The Third Side of God:
He is to come.
God holds our future in his hands. We can toss worry out the window. No matter what comes our way, God is in control, and we won’t face it alone.
Salvation adopts you into the family of God. When you choose to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, you benefit from the ongoing presence of God in your life.
God is our answer when we’re tired of worrying about what the future will bring.
