We sing songs of the shore, bringing about images of palm trees, drinks in coconut shells, and little umbrellas.
The sun always shines, and if it does rain, it’s always far out to sea.
That’s our BEACH life, the one that leaves all our problems at home, and we have a fresh towel at our fingertips anytime day or night.
John 14:27 tells us God wants to offer us the BEACH life.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Let’s rewrite this admonition in BEACH terms.
B – God desires to be BENEFICIAL to us.
Living in peaceful circumstances gives us a better attitude and a longer life. Try it and see.
E – He ENCOURAGES us to come to him.
God’s peace becomes ours when we give up our autonomy to him. His way is a better way.
A – He is the ALTERNATIVE the world cannot offer.
The world teases us with glitter and gold, but it’s an empty promise. Only in God can we find truth.
C – True CALM only comes in the presence of our heavenly Father.
Worries are for other people. When we give God control, our troubles are of little notice to us.
H – God wishes to HEAL our hearts and minds.
Frank Herbert, author, wrote in one of his epic sagas, “Fear is the mind-killer.” That might not be biblical lore, but it’s as true for the Christian as it was for Herbert’s book character. We are healed in Christ when our fear of the world is banished from our thoughts.
Come on. You, too, can live the BEACH life. You can find it in Christ. You can have it today.
With Jesus at our side, troubles are banished to the edge of the sea.
