Our OCEAN God

Seventy percent of the earth’s surface is covered by water. Ocean currents move across the globe, redistributing warm, equatorial waters, and in the process they keep temperatures livable for countries close to the frozen poles. The surface of the ocean is churned by the wind, and in the process, phytoplankton in the sea convert carbon dioxide to oxygen, replenishing and scrubbing the air for us. Sea life provides a staple food source for three and a half billion people across the globe.

Without the ocean we would not be able to survive.

The ocean is like our God. He gives us life when circumstances say we should be dead. He replenishes us when we become exhausted. He is our source of spiritual nourishment.

Without God, we cannot survive.

Let’s look at our OCEAN God:

O – He ORDAINS the powers of this world.

Romans 13:1 tells us that every soul is subject to a higher power, and that all higher powers are ORDAINED of God.

God created the earth and set its rules in place. He created the oceans and the land and all the creatures thereof. Nothing exists without him.

C – His waters COVER the hosts of our enemies.

Exodus 15:5 tells us that the depths of the sea covered Pharaoh’s chariots, and they sank to the bottom like stones.

When our enemies come against us, God washes them aside, and they are COVERED by the depths of his power.

E – He ENDURES forever.

Psalm 9:7 tells us the Lord has no beginning and no end.

The oceans cover seventy percent of the earth’s surface, but they contain ninety-nine percent of all the earth’s water. Man has yet to explore more than a small percentage of what the ocean has to offer. The oceans were here before man came along, and they will ENDURE long after we are gone.

A – He ADORNS us with his blessings of plenty.

Jeremiah 31:4 tells Israel she will be rebuilt, and all the world will become aware of her favor in the sight of God.

Just as God has showered the wealth of this world across its oceans, so he will ADORN us with spiritual blessings in order that the world will know of his love for us.

N – He is the good NEWS that satisfies our thirst.

Proverbs 25:25 tells us that God is our welcome email, our upbeat newscast, and our long-awaited phone call. When we hear from God, our thirsty soul is filled to overflowing. Just as the oceans of this world feed over three billion people, God’s NEWS nourishes us so that we might love those around us.

When God is the source of our life, his resources are too great for us to exhaust.
