Softening Our Hearts

―  Also find us at www.MyChurchNotes.com  ―

The human spirit is resilient. One way we survive is to build defenses against the harshness that life can throw our way.

When our defenses become too strong, we can miss out on good opportunities along the way.

In the book of Mark, Jesus tells the parable of the sower. He sowed seeds four times, with a different result each time. We want to look at the second example today.

“And some fell on stony  ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: but when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.”

What’s the Lord placing on our hearts today? Who needs help that only we can offer? A visiting missionary? Obviously, but anyone can give there. How about our children, the cashier at the grocery store, or the neighbor with a new baby? What can we do for homeless people, the elderly who have no one, and those who go without Christmas gifts each year?

Are our hearts touched when we hear of someone in need, then life gets in the way, and we “get on with things” because we don’t have time to offer the help they need?

God wants to soften our hearts. He desires for us to be his hand to those who can’t help themselves. Otherwise, we are no more than stony ground, without much earth (love), and our compassion has withered away.

The love that drew us to Christ overflows with the compassion that God wants to flood from our hearts unto the world.

Excerpt of the Day

A promise to the devil can be laughed off when we have Jesus standing at our side. A promise from the devil is worthless, and should be laughed off even faster.
