Cribbing for Christ

Crib.

Three definitions, three meanings:

A bed for a baby, one with high sides for protection.

A trough-like structure for feeding farm animals.

A cheat-sheet for a test.

There’s more. Crib can also be a building for storage, a narrow dwelling, cards discarded in cribbage, or to steal something, as in the words of another writer.

Several years ago a reality series named Cribs debuted. It took viewers on a tour of celebrities’ massive homes, showcasing how much they owned and how fabulous it was to be one of the select few.

That’s quite a leap from a narrow house to a grand mansion. However, it’s what we fill it with that makes it a home. Otherwise, it’s just a building, four walls holding up a roof, and there’s nothing there to envy or be proud of.

Hebrews 11:1 says faith is our crib’s foundation. It is in believing in God that we lay the stones that underlay our Christian walk. Our firm footing is found in our confidence in him.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

2 Timothy 3:16 reveals the blueprints for construction of our magnificent crib. Our excellent abode will reflect the truth of God as revealed in his Holy Word.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”

1 Corinthians 2:14 reminds us that only the spiritually minded will appreciate our Christian Crib. The world looks for massive televisions and swimming pools. Our mansion is filled with love for our family, concern for our fellow man, respect for Godly values, and honor unto the Most High God.

“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”

Pick the crib definition you like best: protection for the new Christian; a table of feasting for God’s workers; or the answers to God’s test written in the Bible. All apply. The crib God holds out to us as our final reward is a magnificent mansion filled with what God helps us become when we let him be the blueprint for our daily walk of faith.

When Christ is our crib, we live in a mansion most glorious, one the finest of earthly homes cannot hope to equal.

Excerpt of the Day

A promise to the devil can be laughed off when we have Jesus standing at our side. A promise from the devil is worthless, and should be laughed off even faster.
