A flag is a piece of cloth, but what it represents is so much more. It tells the world of our history, our heritage, and our heart. It tells what is important to us, and by the same token, it tells what is not important to us.
The flag we raise tells others just who we are.
This is especially true in our Christian walk. When we lift our spiritual flag before the world, we speak of our love for Christ and our dedication to his message.
The Scriptures give us five reasons to wave the flag of the awesome and almighty God high above our heads, for he is worthy, and he deserves our praise.
Reason #1:
Our flag declares our worship of the Lord God of truth.
Psalm 60:4 tells us the Lord gives a banner to those who respect his judgment and power. We are to display it before the world, in order that they might see the truth in his name.
When we display the flag of his truth, we will draw the broken and wounded into his kingdom.
Reason #2:
Our flag is a sign to the world that the Lord treasures us as his children.
Solomon 2:4 tells us that God showers on us a great feast of riches, and to show others he has blessed us, he unfurls his banner of love over all that we do.
The flag God unfurls over us displays his love unto the world, drawing sinners unto him.
Reason #3:
Our flag is a visible declaration that we wish to come before God with our petitions.
Isaiah 13:2 tells us we are to lift our banner when we approach the mountain of the Almighty God; we are to raise our voices; and we are to wave our hands in the air. Then we will be permitted to enter the gates of the Holy One.
When we draw nigh unto him with our flags lifted high, he finds us precious in his sight.
Reason #4:
Our flag will cause God to hear our prayers and reach out to us with answers.
Psalm 20:5 tells us that when we rejoice in our salvation, and we walk forth with God’s banner held high, he will answer our prayers.
God desires to give all good things to his children; he only desires that we come unto him with our flags unfurled.
Reason #5:
Our flag imbues us with power from on high.
Solomon 6:4 tells us that we are an awesome army with banners waving over us.
The power of the Lord cannot be hidden. When we pursue God’s prize, the world will see our flag, and through it, they will see him in us.
Can a piece of cloth really do all these things for us? Is that what the flag of the Lord really is, sewn cotton canvas? Of course not.
The flag we are to wave for the world to see is our example. 1 Timothy 3:1-7 says the world will know our flag is of the Lord when we are above reproach, gentle, controlled, respectable, not quarrelsome, and not a lover of money.
Solomon 6:10 reveals our beauty as we walk with God’s flag held high. We will look fresh as the dawn, be fair as the moon, shine brightly as the sun, and we will march into battle with God’s banner waving over us.
When the world sees Christ in us, they will know us for who we really are.
