Our Ending Is God’s Beginning

English Audio Version

We slide into the last pew in the morning service, late again.

We know we bought the birthday present, but it’s time for the party and WHERE IS IT?

That spot on our arm … how we wished we’d had it looked at last year.

We stand over the casket, certain that our future has abandoned us for all time.

In the moment, we feel helpless, but that’s life. Appliances go on the blink, cars break down, our bodies age, and one day, our earthly shell gives way to a future that’s unknown.

Or is it?

Revelation 21:5 says:

“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’”

What does he mean with “everything new”? This verse is speaking of a new heaven and a new earth. He’s building the new Jerusalem, where the bride of the Lamb will reside.

You say, “That’s great for then, but I hurt now. What about today?”

That’s what’s great about this. God’s new beginning—everything new—begins in you today. When you come to Christ and receive his gift of salvation, your old man is tossed to the wayside, and you become a new creature in him.

Does that fix you being late to the service? That’s on you. Plan to arrive 30 minutes early next time.

That birthday present? A little organization might help.

That spot, that casket, well, this is life, and things will get old and wear out. But in Christ, you are a NEW PERSON forevermore!

The sandpaper that is life is often painful, but our hope comes through our faith in God and our trust in the redemption we enjoy through Jesus. Our ending IS his new beginning forever and ever. Amen!
