Sometimes we feel we’ve reached the end of our rope, we’ve tied a knot just to be able to hang on, and the rope’s coming unraveled in our hands.
We ask how God could let us sink so low.
There are three verses in the Bible that show us how God can lead us from desperation to victory.
Jeremiah 32:23:
Jeremiah knew how it felt to be at the end of his rope. In 32:23, we read where God cursed the children of Israel, for they had taken possession of Canaan but not followed his laws. The city of Jerusalem was to be given to the Babylonians.
During this time, God told Jeremiah to buy his cousin’s field and store the deed away in a safe place. When Jeremiah questioned the wisdom of such a foolish act, God replied, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is there anything too hard for me? One day I will restore the fortunes of this land.”
Even as disaster seems to loom, we need to follow God’s instructions, no matter how bizarre they may seem. He is the God of everything, and nothing is too hard for him.
Isaiah 45:1-3:
This passage speaks to the power of God. Cyrus was one of the greatest kings of antiquity. Although he did not worship Jehovah, God took hold of his right hand, opening doors for him, and giving him the riches stored in secret places, just so Cyrus would know that Jehovah is God.
How much more will God do for his children? Do not doubt that God loves us, or that he will provide for us. His promises are forever and amen, and he will never abandon those who worship in his name.
Psalms 121:1-2:
When we feel the last threads of the rope coming undone, we have a solution. We should lift our eyes to the hills, for our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Maybe the knot at the end of our rope is holding us back from God’s promises. God does not know disaster. He only knows solutions. When we reach the end of our rope, perhaps we should turn loose, for God already has our solution on the way.
When we see nothing but darkness ahead, and God’s instructions seem to make no sense, we must remember that he showers the blessings of heaven upon whom he will. If we look to him, he will be at our side.
