Mention strength and power, and the image of a body builder leaps into our mind’s eye.
Goliath, perhaps, or a Godzilla.
We hear King Kong roar, or imagine Thor with his hammer, cracking the crust of the earth with a single blow.
And we can’t forget Superman, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.
What about the mustard seed? It grows into a mighty tree.
Or the microscopic novel coronavirus? It shut down the world during much of 2020.
Years ago, a Swiss bank account was the strongest asset a businessman could have. It spoke of wealth and security – from one of the smallest countries in the world.
The atom, one of the building blocks of all matter … split it under the right circumstances – making it even smaller – and you create an explosion that can destroy an entire city.
Let’s look at Micah 5:2:
“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.”
Bethlehem, too little to be counted among the clans of Judah, was to become the source of the greatest religious movement in the history of the world.
We know the story of Joseph and Mary, traveling to Bethlehem, not because they wanted to, but because the law required them to.
Then, in this place too little to be among the clans of Judah, Jesus was born. Just a babe, he would one day grow into the Savior of mankind. He would give his life on a cross so that his blood could become the payment for the sins of the world.
You may feel unimportant and weak, but this Christmas, remember the story of Jesus. He started as a tiny baby in a town too small to be noticed and look where God took him.
This year is your beginning in Christ. God has places for you to go and challenges for you to overcome. Take the hand of Jesus and move forward in his name.
God is the magnifier that guides us to success in him.
