Steve Errey writes in TheChangeBlog.com how his life has taken an unexpected turn the last few years.
Steve considers himself to be what he terms a social butterfly, a person who needs laughter, silliness, and the company of good friends. Yet, because of a debilitating illness, he has become alone.
He feels forsaken by life, and he doesn’t enjoy it.
We are not forsaken by God, no matter what our situation seems to be. Illness, divorce, or gender-identity has no impact on the attentions of our all-powerful Father.
Isaiah 62:4 speaks to the children of Israel, but the words are also a consolation unto us:
“You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married.”
God is telling us that our illnesses will become of no account, and that we will not be separated from what’s important to us by something as inconsequential as divorce. Gender identity? Bah! The Lord delights in us.
1 John 1:9 reminds us:
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
At the forsaken moments of our lives, God is waiting for us to notice him. He is always there, all the time.
Psalm 119:105 gives us words of encouragement:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Titus 2:13 expresses our innermost desire:
“Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ…”
Ephesians 6:12 proclaims we don’t have to stay down when the world knocks us down:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
1 Corinthians 15:22 is the reason it all works to our benefit:
“For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.”
Steve Errey feels he needs to embrace who he is, because it’s up to him to work his way out of his problem.
God says he’s there to lead us out of the Land of Forsaken. All we need to do is ask him for his help.
We are never forsaken when we allow the Lord to hold us in his hands.
