Most of us don’t study quantum mechanics. The reality of it, however, is all around us. We can’t escape quantum mechanics if we try.
Hold someone’s hand. Are they alive and warm to the touch? If so, we’ve just experienced excitation, a basic concept in quantum mechanics. When an atom moves faster than the atoms around it, it has greater heat. When it moves fast enough, it feels warm to us.
We seek warmth, because we must have it in order to survive.
How can we find warmth in our walk with our Lord? We have a good start in Isaiah 61:10:
“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”
When we get excited in the Lord, we create a little pocket of spiritual warmth. We bump into other people’s spiritual atoms, and they begin to move, also. Then they begin to bump into others, and the warmth grows until it becomes a mighty flame, ripping across the land, and igniting spirits for the Lord all across the world.
In that moment, we’ve become a study in quantum mechanics. We’ve raised ourselves to an excited state, given ourselves more energy than those around us, and begun to affect those we come into contact with.
Quantum mechanics also says the lifetime of our excited state is usually short. Why? The energy we give off leaves us drained. We constantly have to find some way to give ourselves extra energy.
We get our extra energy by studying the Word and praising our glorious Heavenly Father. When we keep that up, we will remain excited about him all the time. The excitation of being involved with the Almighty God of all Creation is something a Christian must have in order to survive.
When we are enthused with Christ, it will spread to those around us.
