Several years ago, Bonnie Kahn, a mighty woman of God who had traveled the world doing the Lord’s work, met with a young couple in her home. At one point she led them into her upper room, a second story addition tucked under the roof of her home. Stepping through the door, she paused, overwhelmed at the presence of God that rested upon everything inside.
Yet, the room was simply a certain space contained within the four walls of a suburban home. What imbued that upper room with God’s presence?
It was the repeated touch of a woman of God.
Exodus 30:27-29 reveals God’s magnificent empowerment of the physical objects that surround the men and women of God. From the tables we sit at as we do the Lord’s work, to the lamps we use to light our way, the things we touch are to be holy. They must be sanctified by the God of all creation.
It is the empowering of Jesus Christ in our lives that sanctifies the things we use to do good works in his name. When Christ lives in us, he makes holy those things that must be made holy, and when we return to them, we will sense the holiness that still remains.
Bonnie Kahn could see something in her upper room that no one else could. What was it? It was the holiness of God, a supernatural touch from the Father that had come from Bonnie herself, because she did one thing always and above everything else.
She walked in the footsteps of the Lord.
Are the things we touch holy? Does the power of God flow from us into everything we possess and use for the kingdom of God? It will if we walk in the footsteps of the One who died upon the cross to bring us redemption from our sins.
When God extends his hand through us, everything we touch will have the mark of his presence stamped on it forever and ever more.
