Pumped Up on Jesus

So, you’re in the boxing ring.

The lights are on, the crowds are cheering, and the referee is ready for the game to begin.

Your opponent is muscled up, grinding his fists, and if looks could kill, you’d be dead.

And you realize you’ve never played this game, and you have no idea how to make your first move.

You panic. How did you get here? What possessed you to put on your gloves?

Who were you trying to impress?

At times, living the Christian life can feel the same. Our enemy is muscled up, we’re standing in the spotlight, and we’re about to go at each other.

And we have no idea how to begin.

Hebrews 1:36 in the NIV gives us our game plan:

“So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’”

You see, we have a coach just on the other side of the ropes. He’s there to direct us, to cheer us on, and to patch our wounds when we take a hit.

We may not know what we’re doing, but he does.

What can mere mortals do to us?

When the devil comes at us, we can step aside and let him take it up with Jesus.

We have a champion, and in Jesus, we are never far from the winner’s circle.

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
