We live in a world that requires caution every day.
That gas pump at the local station? Don’t answer your cell phone while the pump is running! Disaster might ensue!
At home we check our batteries in our smoke alarms and carbon monoxide sensors. What we don’t sense can cause us great harm!
At the grocery store, be careful not to share your debit card’s PIN. Someone can empty your account without you knowing!
And everything we buy … warnings galore … from breathing hazards, burn hazards, and even not suitable for children under 5! It’s a puzzle! How much damage can a puzzle do?
Then there are the warning lights on the dash of our car. We’re frightened that one might stay lighted when we start the engine. We exclaim, “Oh, no, what’s gone wrong now?!?”
Philippians 4:6 (NIV) reassures us:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
The warnings and cautions may seem overwhelming, but God is our salvation and our protector. Don’t stress each time you fill up your gas tank. Leave your cell phone in the seat. Your caller can leave a message, and you can call them back.
Your household alarms … they will remind you when the battery is low. Until then, check them regularly and sleep in peace.
All the rest? God says he will step in if things go wrong. Certainly, protect your PIN, and it doesn’t hurt to monitor your bank account. And hazard warnings on products are mostly for people who don’t pay attention. Also, not every 5-year-old eats puzzle pieces, especially when their parents are diligent to oversee their activities.
And our car? Maybe an extended warranty is in your future. Then repairs are a phone call away.
Here’s the key to a transformation of your mind about the world we live in: “In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
God is the great protector. When he is watching over us, no harm can come our way.
