Exotic Destination Desired

Imagine driving the highest navigable road in Colorado at over 14,000 feet, or surfing a black sand beach in Hawaii, or even cruising coastal Alaska in a private luxury suite.

What do all these have in common? A good travel agent who can get us to the destination where we desire to go.

In 2012, a businesswoman booked a flight to Bloomington. When she exited her plane, she found she had a very long drive ahead of her. She was in Bloomington, Illinois. Her meeting was in Bloomington, Indiana.

Without a good travel agent, we can run into all sorts of pitfalls, from missed connections, to winding up at the wrong destination. In our Christian walk, we have the best travel agent possible. God. Let’s look at Acts to see four ways God made sure Paul got to the destination he needed him to be.

1st – God provided the opportunity for Paul to travel.

The Sadducees and the Pharisees created a great disruption, what we might call a brawl, over Paul’s teachings. In Acts 23:10, the chief captain of the Romans pulled Paul from the fray in order to send him to Rome to resolve the dispute.

2nd– God assured Paul safe passage.

There was some concern about the safety of the journey. In Acts 23:23, Paul was assigned 200 soldiers, 70 horsemen, and 200 spearmen to ensure his safety.

3rd– God provided Paul all the necessary credentials.

Paul was a Roman citizen, and this gave him special protection under Roman law. In Acts 23:24-30, Claudius Lysias wrote a missive that guaranteed Paul an audience with the governor of Rome.

4th– God made sure Paul made his meeting.

In Acts 24:25, Paul not only met with Felix, the Roman governor, but with his wife, Drusilla, a Jewess, also. For two years, Felix met with Paul repeatedly to discuss the matters of righteousness, temperance and the judgment to come.

Paul had arrived at God’s exotic destination. He spent two years in Rome, moving about freely, hobnobbing with the elite. During this time he was able to share the gospel repeatedly, and at the government’s request.

We may not know where we’re going, but God has plans for every footstep we take. All we need to do is let him lead us by the hand.

When Jesus comes to us, we must be ready to respond to him in the moment of his passing.
