A Dose of God’s Goodness

English Audio Version

Vaccinations are generally considered a good thing.

We get a small dose of medicine, and it protects us from a larger illness.

Getting poked by a needle’s not fun, however, even when we know the good it will bring.

That’s where sugar cubes come in.

It’s like that song from Mary Poppins, when we sing, “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down …”

In schools across the nation, during the 1960s, school children received vaccinations via sugar cubes. A drop of the medicine was placed on the sweet white square, and they were eagerly eaten with no complaints.

God wants to give us a dose of his goodness. He wants us to skip the bad things that come our way. He offers us a way out of the problems he knows will trip us up.

Proverbs 12:2 says we receive God’s favor when we follow the precepts of the Word.

“A good man obtains favor from the Lord, but a man of evil devices he condemns.”

Matthew 6:33 assures us we will receive God’s blessings if we put our Lord first in our list of priorities.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Proverbs 11:28 is our instruction to put our trust in God, not in the wealth of this world.

“Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.”

Here’s God’s plan. He wrote the Bible as a source of medicine, just a jot on a cube of sugar, easy to swallow, one truth at a time. When we take in his truths and let them change us, we can sidestep the pitfalls we find along the way.

The Bible is our source of goodness. We get a good dose when we study its truth. We become healthy in God when they become part of us.

Our spiritual health flows from God. It’s waiting for us to reach out and take it.
