Summer extends well past the end of August, but for all practicality, August wraps up the activities of the summer season, even as we feel summer's heat linger deep into September. The year has moved on, and we are forced to let summer slip through our fingers as if it never was. We close our summer houses down. School begins again. The focus shifts to the upcoming fall holidays.
However, God is an AUGUST God, and he is unchanging. He never closes down or shifts focus to something else. He is the same forever, and we can count on him to be with us always.
Let’s look at our AUGUST God:
A – He is our ABUNDANCE.
Titus 3:6 tells us that our blessings do not end after a season. Rather, God pours out an ABUNDANCE of the Holy Spirit on us that we might know the richness of Jesus Christ our Savior.
U – His gives us his UNDERSTANDING.
1 Kings 4:29 tells us that Solomon received God’s wisdom and UNDERSTANDING, so that his wisdom was greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. Solomon’s gift was not for a time, but for all of his days.
G – He shows us his GLORY.
In Exodus 33:18 Moses asked God to show him that he had found favor in his sight, and God showed him all his GLORY, in order that Moses might know he had God’s continuing favor.
U – He is UNDEFILED.
James 1:27 tells us how we can remain spotless before our UNDEFILED Lord. If we visit the fatherless and widows in their time of trouble, and keep ourselves unspotted from the world, we will become like Jesus.
S – He goes up with a SHOUT.
Psalm 47:4-5 tells us that God chooses a great heritage for us, and proclaims his power before all the world with a SHOUT. He does not choose us for a time and then abandon us. He cherishes us to the ends of the earth.
T – His TRUTH endures forever.
Psalm 117:2 tells us his love is unchanging. He is faithful to us always. His TRUTH endures forever!
God does not know a time or a place, an event or a season. He is the God of always, and he will be there for us whenever we call upon him.
