God, Our Great Companion

Stand by Me.

That’s a song by Ben E. King from 1961. It’s also the 1986 movie by the same name.

The meaning is that no matter what happens to us, if someone is with us through everything, then the world’s okay. Things will turn out fine.

God is that companion for the Christian. He’s the one who will “stand by us” through everything that life decides to throw our way.

Lamentations 3:22-23 reveals the recurring nature of our Lord. He comes to us daily. We can never exhaust his goodness no matter how long we live.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Luke 12:32 banishes fear from our lives, for God finds pleasure in what he does for us.

“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

Romans 15:13 fills us with hope through the joy and peace of believing in Christ. Our assurance comes through the Spirit, who guides us amid the troubles that beset us.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

To be faithful is to always be there; to never give up; to be the friend that never fails. God is that friend, our faithful companion, the one we can trust when all others fall away. We never need fear he will abandon us. He’s promised us his love and that we will find it each morning, if only we look to him.

When our legs begin to wobble, the Lord will steady our feet. He’s the one who will stand by us.

Excerpt of the Day

We live blinded to the spiritual world until it's time for us to grow into maturity in Christ.
