On Your Mark . . .

―  Now you can also find us at www.MyChurchNotes.com  ―

Life is a sprint.

It doesn’t matter if we believe in God or not. Atheist or agnostic. Buddhist believer or devout Catholic. The reality is that we start in one place, and we finish in another.

Our dash is punctuated and brief when seen from the end, but unimaginably endless at the starting line. Where we are determines the view we see from our eyes.

On your mark, get set, go!

2 Corinthians 5:21 is our mark. This is our steady spot. It’s our marked course, the one that has a clear demarcation already trenched in the sand. We place our foot in the starting position.

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

1 Peter 1:13 describes how to set our mind into readiness for the race to come. Our focus is on the grace of our Lord. It’s our end goal, the signpost at the finish line that we continually strive toward.

“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

James 1:2-3 is our buzzer, starting the race we run. We have to put out our best, strain our muscles, and be unwilling to give up. Our Christian sprint takes determination, eyes forward, and focus. When a stitch in our ribs tempts us to quit, we grit our teeth and lift our legs higher, striving toward our goal.

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”

It’s when we see the finish line in sight that we realize how quickly the race has passed. The tired muscles and the aching knees are worth every step. We are about to break the tape, and the victory will be ours.

The pain of the race is worth it when we cross the finish line into our Lord’s waiting arms.

Excerpt of the Day

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
