Diving the Deep

The sea makes up about 70 percent of the earth’s surface. If all we do is look at the top layer of the great wasteland that is the ocean, we have missed much of its beauty.

It is when we don our diving gear and head beneath the waves that we see the true beauty of the sea. From coral reefs to sunken treasure, the gems we find under the surface are amazing to behold.

In Matthew 13:52 Jesus likens the kingdom of heaven to a treasure trove filled with amazing things. When we come to Christ, we are given the keys to his kingdom. All we have to do is strap our scuba masks on our faces, and jump into his Word. We will pull up pearls of wisdom, emerge carrying golden nuggets of truth, and find beauty in God’s coral reefs of spiritual understanding.

Just as a diver does not leave the spoils of his dives on the ocean floor, so we are not to leave our spiritual spoils between the pages of the Book. We are to enrich others with the gems we find in God’s Word.

How can we do this? Here are three ways:

Enrichment Opportunity #1: Become the leader of a small group within the church body. God’s pearls of wisdom will draw others to us.

Enrichment Opportunity #2: Share a Sunday school class with another teacher. Anyone can present a golden nugget of God’s truth one or two days a month.

Enrichment Opportunity #3: Correspond with others via email or Facebook. Describe the beauty seen in God’s Word. As a coral bed is made of hundreds of magnificent parts, so is God’s Word beautiful in many different ways. We can tell others of what God has revealed to us.

When we dive into God’s Word, we will bring nothing but beauty to the surface.

When Jesus comes to us, we must be ready to respond to him in the moment of his passing.
