Our GYRO God

Balance in life is important. Without it, things around us skew out of control.

We balance when we stand on our feet. At other times we balance a budget, two jobs, and kids who try to kill each other, sometimes all at once. Machines help find balance with gyroscopes, enabling smart phones to sense orientation, airplanes to fly with an autopilot, and ultramodern motorcycles to ride smoothly on two wheels. Even the Hubble telescope is fitted with gyroscopes.

Why? Balance is important for a smooth and well-ordered life.

For spiritual balance, we have a GYRO God. Our GOD YIELDS RICH OPPORTUNITIES for us to minister to those around us. The Apostles in the early church found this out, and it has been true ever since.

Let’s look at four facets of our GYRO God:

GOD: GOD will break down all the barriers the devil can throw at us.

In Acts 5, the High Priest had thrown the twelve Apostles into prison. The High Priest had all the earthly power. However, God had all the heavenly power. An angel of the Lord came to the prison that night, and he opened the doors. Speaking to the Apostles in Verse 20, he instructed them to go to the Temple and preach the eternal life offered by Jesus Christ.

Prison walls could not hold back the everlasting Word of the Lord.

YIELDS: Even the unbeliever YIELDS to the supernatural plan of God.

Once again the Apostles were brought before the High Priest and the Council. Peter’s words in the Apostles defense offended the Council deeply, and they sought to kill the Apostles. However, God had other plans. Gamaliel, a Pharisee of high standing on the Council, cautioned his associates, “Some men have risen up, but once their leaders were gone, they faded away. Let these men go, and they will also come to nothing.”

In Acts 5:40, the Apostles were beaten and sent away, with the commandment to not speak in the name of Jesus anymore.

The Council thought the decision to let the Apostles go was their decision, when really it was God’s decision.

RICH: The RICH things of this world will try to lead us astray.

When Stephen was brought before the Council, he rebuked them, telling them of the children of Israel. God had taken Moses to the mountaintop, for he was preparing a mighty spiritual victory for his people. Yet, the people were impatient and let themselves be led astray.

Acts 7:40 reveals the moment. The people said to Aaron, “We have not seen Moses, for he has abandoned us. Build us a golden calf, that we may worship it.”

The Council refused to see that true riches can be found only in the Lord God Almighty through Jesus Christ, not in the things of this world.

OPPORTUNITIES: God will provide us OPPORTUNITIES to bless others.

Peter and John were headed back to Jerusalem, but God had other ideas for Phillip. In Acts 8:26, an angel of the Lord told Phillip to head toward Gaza instead.

It was quite a distance, about one hundred miles. Yet, Phillip did so immediately. In Verse 29, the Holy Spirit instructed him to catch up to a certain chariot and join the passenger.

What an opportunity! The Eunuch inside the chariot was reading the book of Isaiah where it foretells Jesus’ death. The Eunuch believed in Phillip’s explanation, and that very day he was baptized into the salvation of the Lord.

Remember, when we wish to put our lives in balance, GOD YIELDS RICH OPPORTUNITIES. He is our GYRO God, and he will keep us safe against all the devil’s tricks and machinations.

When we feel our lives are out of control, God is always in control. When we let him into our hearts, he will be our spiritual gyroscope, and we will live well-ordered lives.
