On a British auto show, three hosts are often given challenges with their cars. They are not told the challenges ahead of time. Rather, they are handed sealed envelopes, and while on screen, they open them to discover the latest feat they must perform. Sometimes the challenges are reasonable, and at other times, they are ridiculous to the extreme.
For example, at one point, the envelope instructed the hosts to convert their cars into boats. Another time, they attempted to launch a car into space. The best of the best? Driving pickup trucks overland (or over ice) to the North Pole.
As Christians, we are the hosts of God’s show here on earth. He doesn’t ask us what we want to do each week. Rather, he hands us an envelope and presents us with a new challenge.
We see this in 2 Timothy 1:9, where Paul reveals the essential nature of our Christianity.
“[God] has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.”
Our challenges are God’s challenges, written and sealed into our envelopes before the world began. God simply hands them to us when he’s ready, and it is up to us to jump on board.
After all, we are the host of God’s show, and it is up to us to keep the attention of the viewers, so that they will want to come to know God as their Lord and King. So, Hosts, committed Christians, and stalwart warriors for him, it is time to open our envelopes! God has a job for us to do.
Our plans must fade into the background, and we must let God’s plans take forefront in our lives.
