Throwing Stones at God

What trips you up in life?

What do you stumble over that you never seem to see coming?

What are the stones that bite into your feet when you try to walk the path that God has set before you?

It’s like tent camping. You place your sleeping bag on the floor of the tent, and invariably, during the night, your back finds the one stone that you didn’t clear from underneath the tent, and it mocks you all night long.

Oh, the stones! Not another one … my spouse is picking another argument. The bank refuses to refund the overdraft. My car … my CAR! It’s broken down again!

Yes, those stones. Read in 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV):

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Yeah, those stones.

The heel on your shoe that comes off on the way to work.

The grocery bag that breaks on the way to the car.

The wind that topples the tree branch onto the car.

The friend that refuses to return your call.

Your child that sulks and says, “I hate you.”

Let’s look back to 1 Peter 5:7 … all your anxiety … because he cares for you.

No exceptions allowed here. Pick up that stone of frustration from your broken heel and toss it at God. He will catch it, because he cares for you.

Your broken grocery bag. The mayo may be shattered, but God wants you to toss the stone his direction. He wants to take it.

The wind … the friend … your child … they are stones along the path God has set you on. He doesn’t desire for you to stumble. He wants to take those stones because he cares for you.

Your path in life will always be littered with stones. What you do with them is up to you. Cast them God’s direction. Throw them as hard as you can. He’s big. He can catch them all … and he will.

Why?

Because he cares for you.
