Planting Ourselves in God

Throw a handful of seeds in a barren field. Just chuck them out there.

What results do you think you’ll see?

Not much. However … place those seeds in a favorable location, and likely most of them will shoot up tall and strong.

Beans and peas like to grow under corn. The taller corn provides shade, and the stalks act like trellises to allow the peas to climb.

Pepper plants help carrots, lettuce, dill, and parsley to thrive.

What do WE need to thrive? What gives US extra nutrients to grow strong and tall?

Ezekiel 34:26 in the ESV gives us our answer:

“And I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing.”

Where is the Lord’s hill? Where are we to plant ourselves?

To answer that, we need to ask ourselves where the Lord is found.

1. In His Word – God has written a book just for us. When we read it, he speaks to us through the words. Let’s crack it today.

2. Through Prayer – God’s spirit speaks to us, nudges us, and consoles us when we spend time with him. When we pray—not just TO him but wait ON him—he connects with us and wraps us in his love.

3. In the Saints Who Mentor Us – Those who have weathered the storms of life, who have learned the mannerisms of God, who have discovered how to abide in him can help us find God in the hustle and bustle of what life throws our way.

Find God. Get as close to him as possible. Plant your feet in him through the Bible, time in prayer, and conversations with trusted saints of the church.

You will grow in God and find sustenance in him.
