Lifted Above Your Lack

So, you have no college education.

You’ve never worked a job that allowed you to come home with clean fingernails.

Plus, you’re divorced and maybe even overweight.

How could God use you?

Before you sink even deeper into despair, let’s look to Judges 6 and into the life of Gideon.

First, the Israelites had been conquered by the Midianites. Gideon was little better than a slave.

Second, whenever the Israelites harvested their crops, the Midianites rode through and stole them all. Yes, all, leaving Gideon and his people hungry.

Third, Gideon was the runt of his clan. The low man on the pole. When God speaks to him and says, “O, mighty man of valor,” Gideon looks around for someone else God might be speaking to, even asking, “Do you mean me?”

How could God use Gideon?

Yet, God saw the might in Gideon’s character, and he named what did not yet exist.

Judges 6:14 gives us God’s response to Gideon’s question.

“The LORD turned to him and said, ‘Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?’ ”

Gideon and the 300 men he gathered destroyed a camp of 135,000 seasoned Midianite soldiers with the help and grace of God!

Your college education? Bah! Not necessary!

Clean fingernails? No one’s even looking!

Divorced … overweight … join the club!

God calls you as he sees you, not as you are. When you step into his service, you become a mighty man or woman of valor!
