Looking Up to the Source of Life

English Audio Version

Imagine this scene from a thousand years ago.

A group of travelers chooses to strike out from their shores in wooden ships. They have no idea what lies across the water, just that adventure draws them into the unknown.

How do they find their way to an unfamiliar land, through uncharted waters, and past dangers told and retold around countless fires?

Do they watch the waves, or turn their eyes to the stars?

If they want to reach their destination, even one that’s unknown, they must look up.

The North Star, the fabled constellations, even the Big and Little Dipper. These are how early travelers managed to head in the correct direction, even when they were unsure of their path across the unexplored oceans.

Our journey with Christ is much the same.

Amos 5:4 says:

“For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek me and live.”

How do we seek God? We look up, look up!

Here are four ways to seek God for direction in your life:

1. Get into the Bible. Read it. Join a study group.

2. Spend time in prayer. On your knees. With no distractions.

3. Fellowship with other believers. Email them. Ask their advice.

4. Put your pastor on your speed dial. He is your source of spiritual inspiration.

Just like those sailors of old, we travel uncharted seas. Who knows where we will end up? We will arrive safely when we look up to God, for in him, there is no error or misdirection.

God is our guide, and he will lead us home to him.
