Life is like a line graph.
Sometimes the line goes up, and we return home at the end of the day and see only bright sunshine in our future.
Other times the line collapses, and we’re certain this is the end of us and all that we’ve tried to accomplish in life.
Up. Down. Things are seldom level, humming along on an even keel, the same day after day.
Sometimes that graph gets extreme, a haywire electric heartbeat, flipping out all over the place.
Arrrgh, we want to scream. We can’t take it anymore. Up or down, just go that way and stay there.
God says, “Okay, that’s fine with me. Let’s get started today. Let’s try sending that line up. Here’s how.”
“ ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’ For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.” (2 Corinthians 10:17-18)
Can it be that easy? Seriously? We brag on God, and our approval rating will start going up and up?
No one’s making this up. It’s right there in God’s Word.
The next time you have a good thing happen, say, “Thank you, God, for doing that for me.”
You make the light before it turns red. “Thank you, God,” every time.
The bonus in your pay envelope. “From you, God. Thanks.”
That slice of pie you baked. “You rock, God. This is good.”
Your new house? “God, you are good to me.” That car you’ve needed? “God, you’re the man.”
Here’s what happens. The bad things might still come your way, but you won’t pay attention to them as much. Your line won’t seem to drop as far, and the highs on your life’s graph will seem even higher.
Your attitude will change, and all you will see is your approval rating going up and up and up.
Focus on God, and everything else becomes of little consequence.
