Heads Above the Crowd

English Audio Version

Pride is considered one of the seven deadly sins.

When we decide our success is all about us, we’ve crossed a boundary that God says isn’t okay. We lift ourselves up, and we accept the accolades. We let the recognition fall on our shoulders, rather than giving it to God, to whom all praise is due.

Yet, God tells us some people are better than others.

What?!? Some people are better than others? How can that be? Aren’t we all equal in the sight of God?

Yes, and no. Let’s look at Acts 17:11 to see how to get ourselves into God’s special graces.

“Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”

This verse tells us we need to do two things if we want to stand heads above the crowd in God’s eyes.

  1. We must receive God’s Word with eagerness.
  2. We must spend time in the Bible studying to prove what we’ve learned.

We don’t need to be a missionary in Africa, start a world-wide television ministry, or create a citywide outreach to the poor. Those are good things, but God sees our heart. When we desire to know more about him, he wants to draw closer to us.

Our greatest gift to God is to offer him our time, energy, and attention.
