Advice.
We sometimes need it, even if we don’t want to listen to it. More often, we feel comfortable with giving it out.
Do this! I’ve been there! I know how you feel, and if you’ll do as I say…
Wait!! Hold on, there! We must be careful. Our advice is often our way of saying we know more than someone else. We stand taller, because we already know the answer.
In spiritual matters, our care must be even greater. Our only source of advice comes from the Word of God, which flows from the mouth of the Father.
Hebrews 4:16 tells us the best way to avoid the pitfalls of life is through prayer.
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
1 John 1:9 says admitting our faults is our first step to avoiding the dangers along the path we walk.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
James 5:16 encourages us to bond with other true believers, for we will find strength to avoid the dangers of life in our fellow brothers.
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us our worst pitfall won’t become our downfall, because the Lord will lift us up and over it until we reach the other side.
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
Here’s some good advice. Turn to the Bible. Look to the Lord. Trust in fellow believers. Know that through Christ, we will be successful for our Lord.
