Kings and Priests

Our past can pull us down. It’s hard to disengage, to cut the cords of yesterday and let the forgiveness of the Lord wipe the slate clean.

Yet, when we come to Christ, we become kings and priests for him. Our past is of no account to the Father, for he sees in us what we’ve become. We become like Melchisedec in Hebrews 7:3:

“Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, or end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.”

Paul isn’t saying Melchisedec had no parents, rather that they aren’t recorded. The same with his death. Melchisedec didn’t live forever, just that there’s no record of it.

Yet, Melchisedec was an incredibly important man, so much so that Abraham, the patriarch, offered him tithes of his battle winnings and was blessed by the priest. Why were these pertinent facts not listed somewhere?

God needed humanity to see that our past doesn’t determine who we are. Our future is what God makes of it. When we let God raise us up to his standards, we become the mighty warriors, the kings of all God sets us to, and the holy priests who carry forth the Word of the Lord into all the nations.

We become bigger than we could ever hope to be when we offer Christ all that we are. We stand side-by-side with Christ, where our past is cast aside, and our future rests in his hands. We are remade like unto the Son of God, holy and pure in him.

We are kings and priests for Christ when we let him live as ruler of our hearts.

Excerpt of the Day

Disbelief is fine. Refusing to move past it when confronted with the truth cuts God to the quick.
