As We Are in Christ

How do we have a happy life?

Is it in the houses we buy, or in the cars we drive? Will we finally find happiness when we get the corner office?

What if we win the lottery? A few million cash can bring happiness to anyone, can’t it?

Or can it?

The truth is, we can only be happy when we live in an environment of inner satisfaction. Part of that involves making fulfilling connections to those around us. We interact with them, are aware of their needs and wants, and spend time involved with their dreams and desires.

It works with God, also. Read in Luke 3:22:

“And the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon [Jesus], and a voice came from heaven, which said, You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased.”

God was attuned to Jesus because Jesus was attuned to God. Jesus interacted with God (through prayer), he was aware of his wants and needs (through study of the scriptures), and spent time involved with God’s dreams and desires (through his ministry to the poor, destitute, and needy).

God’s response? In you I am well pleased.

If we want God to be pleased with us, there’s only one way: We must follow Jesus’ example in prayer, study of the scriptures, and ministry to the needy. Then and only then, God will find his pleasure in us.

Following Jesus’ example allows happiness to flow into our lives.

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
