God’s Laughter

Mankind tries so hard.

Sometimes we succeed, too. Medicine is a good example. We can cure things now that were a death sentence a century ago.

Mobile phones, movie cameras in our pockets, and email on the fly. Self-driving cars? Yeah, we have those, too. What mankind has been able to do is so amazing it boggles the mind.

There’s one thing mankind hasn’t done. Psalm 2:1-3 talks about how mankind tries continually to separate himself from the truth of God’s Word. Mankind tries to discredit the anointed teachers of the Bible, and to negate the teachings that are contained within his Holy Word.

Psalm 2:4 gives us God’s response:

“He who sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.”

Man’s greatest efforts against the church and the teachings of Christ will only produce a laugh from the Creator. Those who have worked so hard against him will be held in contempt, their works becoming of no value, and their actions undone with the second coming of the future and rightful King.

Giving our best is a commendable thing. No one faults that. On the job, at church, or in private with our children, we should strive to be the best we can. If we turn our backs on God, we might as well give up, for we’ll become a laughing stock before him.

The truth of our endeavors is found in Christ. If we choose another way, our best efforts will crumble to dust in our hands.
