We all want the picket fence and the climbing roses. One makes life picturesque, and the other is the sweetest aroma we can imagine. How grand life will be when we get everything we want!
Even the Word says we can have anything. John 14:14 tells us so:
“If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
A closer look tells us more. We can’t tout Verse 14 as our backstage pass if we forget what comes just before it. Let’s take a look at John 14:13:
“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
When we want what the Father wants, we can have everything we desire. Everything, because we will desire what God desires. Let’s take a look next at what God really wants on this earth.
John 20:29 wants us to believe on Jesus:
“Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’ ”
John 3:16 says God loves the sinners that surround us:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Mark 16:15-16 is our charge to go unto the world and share the message of the cross:
“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.’ ”
Romans 10:9-10 is our assurance that God loves simplicity:
“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
John 14:1 offers us peace in our walk with Jesus:
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
Job 2:3 tells us God touts our faith as our badge of righteousness:
“And the Lord said to Satan, ‘Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.’ ”
Do we want what God wants? His written word tells us to believe on him, love our neighbors, go unto the world, keep it simple, find our peace in him, and hold high our standards of integrity. If we want what God wants, and we follow after him, we’ll get everything we want, the picket fence, the climbing roses, and everything. We’ll be able to quote John 14:14 and trust it to be true.
When we want what God wants, we’ll receive our desires every time.
