Having Christ as Our All

Every one of us is human. We are people, our bodies operating by means of various chemical processes, and filled with all the moods, needs, and desires that consume people the world over. That is us in a physical nutshell.

However, our mighty God is not physical, and we have a side of us that is far from physical. God is a spiritual being, and having created us in his image, he also made us as spiritual beings.

That puts us in a constant tug-of-war, the physical with the spiritual.

The physical side of us wants what the body wants. The rumbling engine of a sports car makes our adrenalin flow, and we have to have it. The soaring majesty of a two-story home looking out on an infinity-edge pool stirs our pride, and we are willing to push our financial boundaries to possess it.

The spiritual side of us wants what the spirit wants. We read of hurting people far across the globe, and we volunteer to share financially in reaching them for the Lord. A call goes out on Sunday morning for nursery workers the following week, and we immediately offer our time.

Now to test which side rules in our lives: Did our hearts race? If so, at which example?

We can have everything we desire. Yes, everything we desire. Reading that statement, do we think, I can have my fast car, my big house, and still contribute to God’s ministry needs? For if thats what comes to mind first, be aware, God might very well give us everything we desire.

Hosea 11:5 tell us:

“They shall not return to the land of Egypt, but Assyria shall be their king, because they have refused to return to me.”

Hosea 11 starts with God telling of his love for Israel. Yet, the more God implored his people to come to him, the more they desired the things of the world. Eventually, God gave them what they wanted.

What makes our hearts race with desire? We must be careful, because if we keep asking for it, God might actually decide to give it to us.

Where will we be then?

When all we desire is God, God will give us all the desires of our hearts.

Excerpt of the Day

If something leads us astray, toss it aside and leave it on the side of the road.
