Raggedy Ann Behind the Wheel

A dummy can be the best thing behind the wheel of a car.

Ho, ho, we say. Maybe not. Yet, let’s look at the benefits of having a dummy in the car.

The first crash test dummy was Sierra Sam in 1949. He was used to test aircraft ejection seats. From there, crash test dummies have grown smarter and smarter, simulating human injuries and providing invaluable information to make our cars ever safer for their human occupants.

As stated earlier, a dummy can be the best thing behind the wheel of a car.

Yet, how useful is that dummy if its head remains filled with nothing but straw? Then we have a Raggedy Ann behind the wheel, and we will make no progress at all. In fact, people will die due to our lack of knowledge.

In our walk with Jesus, the story is the same. We come to Jesus as Raggedy Anns and Raggedy Andys, our heads full of straw and not much else. We have to become smarter for Jesus, so that we may provide the example that will lead the lost souls of this world to Christ.

How do we change from a raggedy dummy to a Sierra Sam? We can find that answer in God’s Word:

The Spirit of truth will guide you. John 16:13.

The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord. Habakkuk 2:14.

Our teacher will tell us the way to turn, whether to the left, or to the right. Isaiah 30:21.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Proverbs 1:7.

If we choose to ignore God’s opportunities to grow in him, Hosea 4:6 offers us a dire warning, for in this verse we learn that God’s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

When we gain knowledge in the Lord, we are transformed. We are no longer a straw-headed dummy sitting in the driver’s seat. We have become a Sierra Sam, and others will follow our example, finding safety in the Lord.

When Jesus is our teacher, we will become brilliant in him.
