Subscription to God

Magazines are called periodical publications, or more simply, periodicals. Unlike a book, the same magazine is published over and over with new information between the covers with each new edition.

Buying one magazine doesn’t ensure that we will get the next and the next and the next.

If we like a magazine and we want to continue reading it, there are two ways to get it. The first is to browse the racks at the local big box, where we pay full price. The second is to get a subscription, where the magazine will come to us faithfully and without interruption, right into our homes.

Without a subscription, it is easy to let the magazine slip our mind, and an extra month goes by, then another, and we realize we’ve missed something that we wish we had.

Even with a subscription, we have to renew it from time to time. Let the subscription run out, and we will be back where we were before, shopping at the store, hoping we don’t forget the next issue.

Our walk with Jesus is very much the same. When we subscribe to God, we have to keep our subscription up. We must renew our relationship on a regular basis, in order that we do not miss out on anything he has for us.

The Bible even sends us renewal notices. Here are a few:

Isaiah 40:31:

“They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Ephesians 4:23-24:

“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

Psalms 23:3:

“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”

John 7:37:

“Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”

Romans 12:2:

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

2 Corinthians 4:16:

“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

Colossians 3:9-10:

“Ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”

Acts 2:1-4:

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

“And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

If we only look for Jesus when we happen to be in church on Sunday, then we are going to miss out on a lot of what he has in store for us. It is when we renew our subscription to him that he can fill us with his knowledge and power on a daily basis.

When we sign up for Jesus, let’s not forget to renew our relationship each and every day.

Excerpt of the Day

When Jesus comes to us, we must be ready to respond to him in the moment of his passing.
