Seven Things from God’s Wishing Well (part 2 of 7)

Imagine the beautiful bird that first greets us in the spring. The spring rains keep the birdbath filled, and we enjoy seeing our little friend splash in the water.

June arrives, and soon the rains come to an end. The water level in the birdbath drops, and we find ourselves filling it several times a week. The rains no longer provide enough to drink, and the bird has begun to depend on us.

However, we are called out of town, and when we return a week later, the birdbath is empty. We worry that our friend has left, but as the evening wears on, we hear a tapping at the window.

It is that beautiful little bird, and it has come to us. Why? Because it has learned that we are the source of its life-giving water.

We are the ones that allow it to live and breathe when the summer heat leaves everything dry and dead.

That is the lesson we should learn about our God. In the time of our spiritual summer, when all around us appears dry and dead, God continually replenishes our source of life.

In today’s message we will cover the second of seven gifts we can find in God’s wishing well. We will see that God wishes us to ask him for spiritual blessings.

Read in Zechariah 10:1 where the prophet encourages us to plead with God for a renewing in the last days. He tells us that God will give us an abundant spiritual renewing, and there will be enough to provide for everyone.

Our world today is much the same as Zechariah’s was thousands of years ago. Financial wizards have given useless direction to us, and the entertainment industry has led us down a path of wickedness. The church leaders have assured us we needn’t fear God’s wrath, and the political heads of our nation have provided no moral leadership at all.

God was furious then, and he is furious now.

However, if we read on in Zechariah 10, we find that when we ask for God to refill our source of life, then he promises he will gather us to him; the arrogance of our enemies will be brought low; and we will be strengthened in him. All he wants is for us to walk in his name.

In Luke 11:10 Jesus’ words speak to our needs today. What we ask of the Lord, he will provide, and if we look for him, he will be there. If we knock, then he will open the doors of the kingdom to us.

When we go through our dry times, and we will, we have a source of living water that never dries up. It is continually refilled by the heavenly Father, and he will never leave us or forsake us.

Sometimes we think we don’t deserve to ask God to renew us in our spirit. However, John 16:24 tells us otherwise. In this passage, Jesus tells us that we have been hesitant to ask him for what we need. However, all we need to do is ask. If we simply ask of him, he will give us what we need, and we will be filled with his joy.

From where do we receive our joy? Psalm 28:7 tells us that when we place our trust in him, we can rejoice, for God is our strength and our shield.

God wants to be our continual source of life. If we ask him for spiritual renewal, he will give us joy that no one can take from us.
