Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 tells us that the best way to live is to take care of ourselves, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job we have.
This passage gives us seven keys to making the most of our lives. We will cover the first four of these in Part 1 and finish our study in Part 2.
Key 1: Read God’s Word.
His Word is our GPS. When we stay in the Word, the Spirit has the ability to lead us.
Psalms 25:12 makes it clear that when we choose to follow the Lord, he shows us the best way to live.
Start a good Bible reading program...and stick to it!
Key 2: Start where we are with what we’ve got.
Our destination comes from our decision to follow God’s instructions.
First, we need to take a moment to write down where we are in the following realms: spiritual; family; mental; financial; physical; social.
Next, write out the goals we have for ourselves. Then we can figure out where God wants us to go.
Key 3: Take care of us.
Many people cast their cares down on Sunday and pick them back up on Monday. Instead, look at Philippians 4:8. In this verse we see that we are to meditate on things that are good and beautiful. Put into practice what we have learned from God.
1 Peter 5:7-8 lets us know that we are to cast all our cares upon him. We are not to worry. That only robs us of today’s joy. It does not solve tomorrow’s problems.
Instead, take a walk in the park, read a good book, or enjoy a cup of coffee on the patio. We need to find time for ourselves.
Key 4: Have a good time.
Christians shouldn’t look like they’ve been weaned on a dill pickle. Is there a Book of Religion that says, We shall not laugh or smile all the days of our lives?
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 states, To everything there is a season…especially a season to laugh. We should make sure we get the whole deal. Trouble is something we should pass through without stopping.
Psalms 118:24 points out that this is the day the Lord hath made, and we should rejoice in it…
Host an after church party, or plan a trip to a museum. Enjoy the time spent with church friends.
As we can see, walking with God is not walking in misery. He wants our lives to be as good as they can be, and he tells us so in his Word.
In Part 2 we will find out how to deal with the pressures of daily life.
It’s our life. Let’s throw out the dill pickles and live like we enjoy it!
