Luge is one of the fastest and most dangerous Olympic sports. The sleds approach speeds upward of 90 mph. Steering is done with the entire body and requires extensive strength training.
It is very much like being a Christian. God sends us on dangerous missions; the pace of our Christian walk leaves us reeling; and if we are not in strong spiritual shape, we are likely to go off course.
Our God loves to send us down the icy LUGE track, and it is only our training that gets us to the other end.
Let’s look at our LUGE God:
L – He LODGES at our side, for he will never leave us.
Ruth 1:16 tells us the perfect attitude of a luger in training. Where you LODGE, I will LODGE.
It is with our trainer at our side that we will find success in our Christian life.
U – He UPHOLDS his promises to make us his champions.
Hebrews 1:3 lets us know that the promises of Jesus are true, for he UPHOLDS all things by his word.
When Jesus tells us we are overcomers in his name, we can hold him to his word.
G – He GIVES us the equipment to bring glory unto his name.
1 Peter 4:11 reveals that God GIVES us his strength, so that we can minister for him.
When we jump aboard his sled, we will have the protective gear we need to survive whatever the track can mete out.
E – He ESTEEMS us for our true value.
1 Thessalonians 5:13 relates that we are valued for the effort we put forth.
On the luge, it is effort that wins the race. When we cross the victory line, our Father in heaven will shower us with his ESTEEM.
Even when we are challenged by our walk with Jesus, we can be confident that he is never challenged by his preparations for us.
