What does a flashlight do?
Turns darkness into light. Keeps us from stumbling on roots or stones on our path. Helps us avoid trees and cliffs. Keeps us safe.
It protects us.
Jesus is that flashlight for humanity. For us. For you.
“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” – John 1:4-5
Here’s a takeaway from this passage that we often overlook:
”The darkness did not comprehend it.”
What I want us to get from this is that darkness doesn’t have to understand the flashlight for the effects of the flashlight’s power to be real.
The light from the flashlight still illuminates the roots, trees, and cliffs even when darkness surrounds it.
We don’t have to wait for the morning when all darkness is banished for the flashlight to keep us safe and to provide us protection.
Jesus, even surrounded by the darkness of the world, shines in that darkness, protecting and guiding us, even when the darkness does not comprehend him.
Let’s place our faith in Christ. He is the light of the world, and he shines in that darkness that all might come to salvation through him.
