Brothers Armed in Christ

How is it said?

Revenge is best served up cold.

Or should it be hot? What does this mean, anyway?

This is something called a proverb, and it illustrates the difference between venting while you’re angry or getting even when someone least expects it.

Here’s how this applies to today’s lesson:

The devil wants to get to you in either way. He doesn’t care, hot in a burst of emotion, or cold, when you’re convinced everyone’s forgotten the past.

Here’s what 1 Peter 5:8-9 has to say about the devil’s wily ways:

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”

We might say it this way: Watch out! Watch out! Now or tomorrow, early or late, even when you think you have it figured out, the devil is there to spread oil in your  path, to shower your footsteps with banana peels, and to ensure that what you’ve been forgiven of comes back to haunt you over and over.

This verse says to resist him, resist him, resist him … over and over. In faith, kick him to the side and say, “Not again, Devil! I am a child of the King!”

Arm yourself with Jesus, with the Word of God, and with fellow believers, and you cannot be defeated!

Your power flows from Christ, for he is your redeemer today!
