Life is about improving our situation.
That’s generational as well as personal.
What our parents had and how they lived, well, we want to step it up a level.
How we lived last decade, it’s time to look for a newer car and a new house. Not only that, we want our car better equipped and our house bigger and more impressive.
Morally, we want to be better people. Treat others civilly. Be kind to strangers. Pet the dog. Donate to a homeless shelter.
In Deuteronomy 28:11-13, God reveals his plan to give you the best that life can offer you.
“And the Lord will make you abound in prosperity, in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your livestock and in the fruit of your ground, within the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give you. The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you shall only go up and not down, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, being careful to do them.”
Note the highlighted portions. The boldface isn’t in the original; these three phrases showcase what this passage says.
God wants you to abound in prosperity.
When God promises us a bright future, he will bring it about. We can place our trust in him.
God promises to open to you his good treasury.
The jobs you work will give you a good return. Your backing is God, and he will be there for you.
God will make you the head and not the tail.
Your life is not on a downhill spiral, not when you have God in your viewfinder. He is your leader, and he always moves forward.
God wants to improve your situation, both generationally and personally. To get God’s best, we must adhere to his condition in the last sentence of this passage.
“… If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God …”
When we do our part, God will do his, and we’ll get the best that God has for us.
