Three Encouragements in Our Darkest Time

Shadows are part of life.

On the sunniest day, there are always shadows. Under the greenest of trees, surrounding the brightest of flowers, even at the base of each blade of grass, if you look close enough.

Yet, at times, the shadows seem to blot out the brightness of the sun.

Psalm 23:4 gives us God’s promise of his presence.

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Some translations of The Word say, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death …”

Well, we can’t get much darker than that. The ultimate shadow. The final showdown in this life. It may be the shadow of our death that haunts us, but the death of a loved one can be equally grim. A diagnosis of cancer, or a sudden accident that we don’t know if we will survive.

Yet, this verse says we mustn’t lose hope in the Father. He holds out his hand to us to carry us through. Here are Three Encouragements in Our Darkest Time.

Encouragement No. 1:

“I will fear no evil.”

Encouragement No. 2:

“You are with me.”

Encouragement No. 3:

“Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

So, the next time that you look outside and shadows are all you can see, and the valley seems so dark that you don’t think you can find your way through, remember, God is at your side.

Evil, banished!

Loneliness, cast aside!

Unease and fear, they are no longer welcome in the presence of God!

Have faith in God, for he is always at your side.
